[Powderworks] before and after pictures

There is an extensive set of before/during/after pictures for various areas
on the www.digitalglobe.com website. Click the media gallery link or the
quickbird for more images, indexed by place. The photos Cheryl linked are
from that set. Horrifying scouring of coastlines and rearrangement of
spaces.

Another extensive collection of GIS information is at www.esri.com . They
are using a piece of their site to host geographic information and data so
people can use it for the relief effort, but they also are showcasing some
really nifty stuff, like wave models from NOAA (who shares and cooperates
nicely - unlike USGS, who hoards and hogs critical data gathered on the
public $$$!).

While I tend to wander through these GIS galleries like a virtual tourist,
they do serve some important purposes. They are being coupled with night
photos to determine where population density was highest pre-tsunami and
various bits of info are being used to find clean water supplies and such.

As always, "too many cameras and not enough food".
