Perhaps a related phenomenon, on the strange-space-events front:
In the Calgary papers this week we saw a picture of a mom holding a softball-sized meteorite that crashed through the roof of their suburban home, and smote the chesterfield in the living room. It then apparently bounced back up to the ceiling, fell and rolled under the family computer. All were amazed at the blast and the dust, and thankful that their toddler had vacated the room moments before. They were eating breakfast at the time.
The story was set somewhere in Auckland, and was reported by the BBC.
