> Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, U2, REM, Hothouse Flowers,
> Yothu Yindi, The Who (a little abstract Pete's ideas might be),
> Paul Kelly, Warumpi Band, Kate Bush (the songs Breathing and
> Army Dreamers from her 'Never For Ever' album. Breathing deals
> with how a unborn child would feel the effects of a nuclear blast
> (from the eyes of the unborn child!) and 'Army Dreamers ' is about
> sending children off to war).
The Kinks! Check out these albums:
'Arthur' - war and peace
'Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround' - satirical theme about the
music industry (and more)
'Muswell Hillbillies' - living in the past vs. the modern "computerised
community", technology and change, social justice etc
'Preservation' (Act 1 & 2) - political conspiracies, exploitation,
capitalism etc
Actually, Ray Davies has proved capable of writing intelligent lyrics
about everything. He's the Man.
