That's a lovely description - 'fragile beast' - and reminds me of how Peter Gabriel described Robbie Robertson's voice: "lived in". Thinking back to the band, RR's voice was somewhat weak and un-charactered. But now his narrative style of singing/speaking works really well for his own stuff, thick and rich as it is. But it wouldn't have carried the Band through their more raucous numbers IMO.
Regardless, we'd all likely buy anything they put out, and could be sure that the message would be well suited to the medium, whoever's doing the singing.
