OK - I'll go out on a limb here...

I think the girl represents irresponsible technology.

Maybe that isn't the best comparison or the right
words, but the verse that grabbed my attention is:

"I can’t explain the difference

Amphibians are the canaries in the coal mine as far as
water quality is concerned. Certain industrial wastes
(PCB's &/ or dioxin I believe) are suspected of
causing horrific mutations in frogs here in the US ( &
elsewhere? ). A five or six-legged frog looks very
like a tadpole.

Oh, yeah...love at first site - DDT, mercury-based
vaccines, Round-Up Ready soybeans, Olestra.....
