Not sure if newbie is maybe the correct term since I used to read,
mainly lurk on Powderworks back in 95-96. But academia burned me out
and I spent a couple of years away from computers and all and I guess
when I came back to it, I tried briefly to resubscribe but couldn't
do it and never followed up.
But I guess my reinterest in MO has peaked again and I made a
concerted effort and I guess I've made it back. Well maybe not my
interest in Midnight Oil since I have always kept up with them but I
guess my interest in getting back to being on the list.
And why the sudden resurgence, well the upcoming show in Chicago is
definetely something to do with it. A couple of trips to Chicago, I
picked up a Reader (local paper) and seen the announcement for the
initial 2 shows but alas they were sold out. When I was in Chicago
again for the Sigur Ros show, I saw the announcement for the third
night so it was an immediate call to HoB to get tickets and hey
presto - success!! So I'll be at the third night, Monday and looking
forward to seeing the Oils for the second time.
I first got into the band, have to admit it, with Diesel and Dust
which came out just as I was getting into music in a big way. Great
album but Blue Sky Mining blew me away and is probably still my
favourite album. Finally got to see the band at Glasgow Barrowlands
on Earth and Sun and Moon in 1993, a great show and have bought all
the albums since, having to get Real Thing from New Zealand from
someone I know whose sister lives there (well worth it).
So I guess I am really psyched for Mondays show and looking forward
to being part of this list
next message contains more on the music - honest
g.
p.s. Anyone kee[ing a database of setlists for this tour? I'd like to
see it ion advance and get some idea of the material they are doing.
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once
I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting
into the arena of the unwell. Making an enemy of our own future.
What we need is harmony.
Fresh air. Stuff like that.
