Subject: [powderworks] Fantasy support acts...
If/when MO tour, I've thinking who I'd like to see as support act/s.
I've decided to not limit myself to reality (as the MO tour itself is a bit of a fantasy), so acts who have disbanded or whose members are no longer with us are in the mix.
Rough criteria - musical and/ or attitudinal compatibility, and of course ability to cut it live. I've left off acts so big they'd have to be co-headliners, or confined such acts to their early incarnations.
So, for what it's worth, and in no particular order of preference, here's my list of potential support acts
Neil Murray
Warumpi Band
Early U2, say around the Boy/October/War era
XTC - up to around the Black Sea album - mainly 'cause I'd like to be able to compare Terry Chambers and RH on the skins live
Blue king brown
NoKturnal
The Mark of Cain
Mammal (the one album wonder, now in the whatever happened to category)
Finiscad (see Mammal) I did see Finiscad supported MO once - a good job they did too
The break (though they'd want to be chugging lots of energy drinks to make it through both sets!)
Hirst and Greene (see The break)
The Cruel Sea
Something for Kate
Powderfinger (borderline in the co-headliner stakes)
Silverchair (see Powderfinger)
The Pixies (before most of the members left)
REM (up to around Green)
Paul Kelly
Genevieve Maynard (the tragedy of this is that most of you will be asking Who?)
Ben Harper
John Butler trio
Spy vs Spy (original trio)
Rachid Taha
Lior
Arrested development (blew me away at Womadelaide)
Hanggai (see Arrested dev) - the Mongolian answer to Deep Purple/Black Sabbath
The tragically hip
Fur patrol (see Genevieve Maynard)
Cheers,
David
