Well once again I do get the point to put the band back on the map. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think these days a lot of younger people who do not know the band well will rush to the store to buy a compilation cd. They will download illegally beds are burning and blue sky mine if they don't already have it. This compilation won't sell very well. I think the band is in a state were they have a fan base that are expecting new things to buy. They won't gain tons of new fans with such a release (that's only my opinion). And the thing I don't get here is why it is such a shame to be disappointed by a greatest hits package, I think the band is also on the map again with a live album (hello... that contains also the hits!!!!). And why not releasing the boxset (aimed to the hardcore fans) along with a greatest hits package (for the rest of the world...). That's a win-win strategy.
Of course I'm not on the band's shoes so I don't have a clue if it's a contractual release or just something so the band is there again and the break and various solo albums can be released while the world knows they all are active.
Now if this list is not the place to say what we think, even if it's negative (by staying polite of course)... then why bother.

If we think this release might be some kind of test to see whether a box set or other release is a viable option, itll be interesting to see what sales look like.  Ive lost track is marketing of this release planned outside Australia?  - Beth

Hey folks, a lurker here. I've heard some good points on both sides of the debate about the Oils "new" upcoming release. And I like to think that the last thing any of us conscientious, intelligent powderworkers want to do is intentionally offend each other... If there's something to be said about the Oils, good or bad, right or wrong, this is the place to express it, right? I interpret much of the banter as tongue-in-cheek, and think it's cool no matter where you stand on the issue. Controversy keeps things interesting. And I personally think the band and management know what they're doing...

There's a legendary, but now obscure, band here in Canada, one of my faves, the Grapes of Wrath, whose heyday was '87 til 91 (when they split). Lo and behold, following 22 years in limbo, a brand new album is coming out early in the new year... However, they're making sure they first get back on the radar by releasing a "best of" CD now. Is this perhaps what the Oils are up to? Getting back on the scene so another future release (of some sort) doesn't crash and burn horribly before even taking off?

I am confident that unreleased material is forthcoming, and am willing to wait for it, because, again, the band knows what they're doing here.

Cheers, Trevor

Does anyone happen to know if Pete's appearance on Pictures Of You in June is available for viewing anywhere on the internet?  I would love to see it
