The major differences I see with Dick Dale tracks, having seen the guy live in small clubs multiple times, is the collaborative nature of The Break versus the One Man Show nature of Dick Dale and his aggressive guitar attack! Dale even refers to himself in the third person, and he typically employs session artists - usually a seasoned blues type guy on bass and some young animal on the drums who tries to keep up with the surfin' sensei. The Break is clearly a group effort and no one performer dominates and that results in a stronger wave instead of a "move fast because you are going to get barreled" experience.

The Break and "Cylinders" are absofreakinlutely AWESOME! I just had to come out of powderlurking mode to state that.

Anybody who hasn't seen it yet, check it out: http://www.bombora.net.au/thebreak/view_vid.html ... I so can't wait to get my hands on the album. OMG.

Hey, anybody else get a slight Dick Dale feeling when listening to The Break? Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xymVxcLQVT8 ... I wonder if The Break will have anything approaching that tempo. Rob can certainly keep up! Those of you who haven't heard of Dick Dale before have probably heard at least his cover song from the Pulp Function soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJmI6fAPUSk ... it was featured in the movie Pulp Fiction.
