Dear Powdies

Bit short notice on my part, but in his Twitter feed, Jim Moginie mentions that he's playing tonight in a band for a gig (Sat'dee night) at the Queensland Music Festival, with Kev Carmody - more details at:

Powdies may recall the 4 track EP "White Skin Black Heart" the Oils did with Kev C, many moons ago. It has "WSBH", "Thou Shalt Not Steal" (by Kev), the "rusty wheel mix" of WSBH, and "Frontier ... What Frontier?" - a quirky electronic piece sampled partly from an ABC documentary "Frontier". (Cat no: 664 988 2, Columbia, 1997) It also has not only some very detailed "dot painting" art work, but also the great quote from Gov Gen Sir William Deane, who said "I am convinced that until true reconciliation with its indigenous peoples is reached, Australia is a diminished nation".

For those interested in more Indigenous Australian views, CSIRO astrophysicist Ray Norris writes about the first astronomers. Curiously, in many indigenous Australian stories, the Orion constellation represents a group of men following the Pleiades sisters across the sky, as in Greek mythology:
