That’s really cool!

Before I went to college and studied astronomy, I thought I wanted to be an archaeologist.  My interests lies in the Central to South American cultures, but any kind of dig is just fascinating.

On another related note:  I found my very first authentic arrowhead this week!  Yes, I know that for where I live in the U.S. they can be found in many places around me, and a lot of shops will sell them to you cheap.  But one made 200 years ago is practically indistinguishable from one made 5 min. ago, so I don’t really hold arrowheads as ‘special’.  But I found this one in my garden (I live way out from people on land my family’s owned for almost 100 years), so I know it’s really old.  And it actually is kinda special for this area because the topsoil is rich and any artifacts sink down, which doesn’t make finding them very easy.  So, yay for me!  Way to notice that there was a piece of flint where there shouldn’t have been.  :o)

Ummm, to make this MO related – I was humming Burnie at the time.  Does that work?

Anyone who's into Oz history,

I'm currently at uni studying Archaeology & History & was lucky enough last year to attend my first dig. It happened to be the first excavation done on the site of the old Inn in Glenrowan that burned down during the Ned Kelly shootout. The whole dig was filmed & it's on ABC tomorrow ( Thursday 9th) at 830pm. Don't know if I'll even be seen, being only a humble student, but I should be easily recognisable as I wore a variety of familiar tshirts :)

It's narrated by Tony Robinson (Baldrick) & should be interesting, if very short. The dig went for four weeks, the show goes for only one hour. Imagine editing that!!

Cheers, Jo.
