Oilyshark, why don't you do us all a favour, read a post properly and contribute something worthwhile to the conversation instead of the dribble you spewed below. You're doing yourself a disservice by coming across as being an ill informed goon, I'm sure you're not but the vehemence of your post sure makes me wonder if I might be wrong. If you revisit my post, that seems to have offended you so much, you will see that I did not say that I was going to be disappointed, I said I had faith that the boys would deliver. I raised a legitimate concern that others offlist have raised with me. I didn't set out to offend you, anyone else on the list or the Oils or their management. Should we just blinker ourselves to comments made from the Outside World or should we discuss them in a civilised way?

To provide an example of the sort of discussion that I have heard over the last couple of days I've copied parts of an email I received earlier today from a non-list member below.

"Mistakes and lack of match fitness can be forgiven to an extent, like we did at manly, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to love having garret fumble through 90  minutes because he can't remember the words or the melody and hasn't made time to rehearse or think about the gig.  It's been more than four years since they played a note together, and a lot of the stuff they wrote wasn't easy to play in the first place, never mind after a four year break. .

I also refuse to believe that Garrett hasn't been able to set aside enough time (and we're talking 3-4 hours) over the last few weeks to at least sit in a room with Jim or martin and go through the songs acoustically at least once. We've known about these gigs for a couple of weeks now. His electorate is in sydney for god's sake... How hard would it have been to set aside one night to drive to glebe or wherever Jim or Martin lives and sit for a couple of hours just quietly singing. I love the oils a lot more than the average joe, but that doesn't mean I won't feel disrespected for 90 minutes (or less) of unrehearsed fumbling. I actually believe that
the oils should probably show their fans a little more respect than that.   They made mistakes at manly even after a few rehearsals.... so who knows what this will be like."
Someone else said to me something along the lines of "it wasn't advertised as a rehearsal was it?"

I'll reiterate that I think they'll do a good job (i.e. have faith they will deliver like they have the many other times I've seen them play), and agree with others that rough edges can make for a wonderful gig experience (at least in a pub environment they do, at a theatre perhaps less so).

Hope to see you at the Transit mate, you can buy me a beer in way of an apology for being so rude to a fellow Oils devotee of some 29 years. ;)

And you call yourself an avid Oils fan??   Do us all a favour and don't bother turning up...."we don't want you to be disappointed"

Being an avid Oils fan I'm not too concerned but I know some of my mates who forked out the $80 and aren't HUGE fans will be very disappointed if it comes across as a rehearsal. Management better be prepared for the angry backlash if the gig isn't up to standard - $80 for a warm up gig is one thing, rehearsal is something entirely different (although I guess it's hardly going to impact on future album/tour sales). Surely there was a cheaper venue available (ANU Bar?) which would have cut costs down? I wonder if they considered negotiating with a smaller venue at cost "C'mon champ, it's the rehearsal for the Bushfire Relief Concert, how about doing it at cost and claiming it on your tax return as a donation to charity" or something like that (note, not sure if a service can be claimed but at the least the publicity would have been worth something to the venue). Mind you maybe the Convention Centre came to the party, seems unlikely though, I park there each work day and the ba$tards certainly like to bleed punters dry. I have faith but if the unthinkable happens I'm not standing in front of the angry mob ;)

Cheers
