I was just listening to 'It Says Here' by Billy Bragg.... a song written about a
different country (England) ,and written more than 20 years ago...and it struck
me how politics and journalism bias seems timeless and universal, and could have
been written last week about Australian politics and papers like Sydney's The
Daily Telegraph ....
The first 5 lines are :
It says here that the unions will never learn
It says here that the
economy is on the upturn
And it says here we should be proud
That we are
free
And our free press reflects our democracy
Pretty amazing...describes exactly the 3 main points the Howard government has
been hammering over the past few months (unions will destroy us...economy is
flourishing...they are best able to protect us from the nasty
terrorists and keep us all 'young and free') and are all points a free
press, impartial *cough cough* paper like the telegraph has been flogging
continuously as part of their 'Howard is the Sun King' routine....
