[Powderworks] Politics, Yea or Nay? - it's not so easy

Dream on, my friend.

The list, in it's FAQ I believe, says something along the lines of topics to be discussed are the band, its music, and associated interests. A band that so often speaks of politics in their songs and actions cannot disassociate themselves from politics, and in the same way neither can a list which revolves around them.

I feel that the political conversations that have been on list recently have been well marked as NMOC, which is enough for non-interested parties (which usually includes myself when it comes to politics) to ID them and delete them if so desired.

Frankly, all the messages that pop up complaining about off-topic conversations quickly become as annoying as the initial messages that started the complaints.

I think it all comes down to this: If you want to be informed about the latest Midnight Oil information, and discuss all sorts of Midnight Oils topics, this is the place to be, warts and all. Delete what you don't like, but give up on trying to change the list to make it what you think it should be. We all should have an equal part in shaping the list by the messages we submit, and one person's ideas of what the list should be will not and should not (in my mind) be what the list is all about.

Pete

><DIV></DIV>>So, 2 out of 12 messages in the digest you quote were off topic about politics, were clearly marked NMOC, and you're complaining?!? I think those are great percentages, compared to some other times in the history of the list.
