It's good to hear that a number of Powderworkers have balanced opinions. =
I really can't see why someone who expresses their valid emotions of the =
impact of Sep 11th should start all this ranting! It really makes me sad =
to see that despite what the Oils say in the song we don't have some =
common ground here. Shouldn't that common ground include:

a respect for human rights?
a healthy questioning of authority?
a love of "freedom" (whatever that word means)?
a pursuit of justice?

So why is it that a number of you take the stance that if you condemn =
what happened on 9/11 you also have to back up what the US government is =
doing around the world? Or on the other side of the coin if you think =
that the US has a dodgy foreign policy do you mock the legitimacy of =
calling 9/11 an atrocity?=20

If people on this list had a bit of respect for peoples feelings (all =
humans around the world are essentially the same US, Afghan, Chilean) =
and tried to find some common view point I'm sure it would be clear =
that:

1) what happened on 9/11 was an atrocity commited against innocent =
civilians and those that carried it out should be brought to justice.
2) the US has had a very dodgy foreign policy at times (which country =
hasn't!?!) which has led to similar (although not on the same scale) =
atrocities to be carried out. You would have to have a "short memory" =
not to find an example - Vietnam, Chile, etc. This does not mean that =
the US is the biggest satan of the world - it just means it isn't =
perfect!

Now what is there to argue about? Both talk about an infringement on =
human rights, personal/political freedom and justice? Please explain to =
me why you can only adhere to one of these viewpoints? I don't get it. =
So I will continue to remember Sept 11th as long as I shall live and =
shall forever be moved by the images. I will also never stop rallying =
against stupidity when I see it.

As a ps how many people are on the political powdies list now? Can't we =
get these debates moving over there quicker? Maybe I'm as guilty as =
anyone for not doing so...
