Good reasons why that silly rumor of no more MO isn't true:

1. Garrett and the others are strongly committed to using their
status to maintain a high level of visibility in the environmental and
political PACs. If they disbanded, it would reduce this visibility and
status and consequently their ability to influence people. It would
also mean no more guerrilla concerts, which are useful in raising
awareness of environmental issues in large groups of people who don't
know MO or their politics.

2. False modesty ain't no asset, and these guys (and their
management!) are well aware of their status as rock cultural icons. If
this had been their last concert season, you bet your life the last show
or two would have been filmed and taped. An influential band like this
doesn't go out in an undocumented fashion. For one thing, their
management would have seen this as a sterling opportunity to milk the MO
cow one last time.

3. Highly creative and intelligent people who have been in the
limelight for so long don't just stop (absent some disaster). Cut back,
maybe. Stop, no way. Especially since MO have always seemed to really
enjoy and connect with their fans at shows where the audience is
responding. They're still doing that, and I can't see how that could be
faked.

So to whoever started this silly rumor: Your mother was a hamster, and
your father smelt of elderberries!

Now to the ethics question. Somebody has been selling CDs of the 2002
Cincinnati show (which I attended) on Ebay at inflated prices. Seems to
me like you shouldn't be making money off a taped show. On the other
hand, I assume they had some expenses in making it. So what's the
ethical thing to do? If I bit the bullet and bought one of the damn
things to weed, would that be against The Rules? Or would it be A Good
Thing? Oh dear, right and wrong are so complex these days *sigh* - Beth
