I think that a lot of record companies are realising that for some albums,
European releases are slightly behind US releases, and in some cases are
more expensive. I've noticed a lot of releases on Universal recently where
special UK editions have been put out with extra tracks - presumably to
protect local sales against cheaper imports.

Capricornia is a blantant example of how this is sometimes necessary - a
CD that is in demand, which was released elsewhere first, and can often
work out cheaper to import than buy in the shops. Throwing a few extras on
it makes it a more attractive proposition, even now for people who have
already bought it on import.

owever, I don't work for any record companies, and so I have no idea if
these are the reasons behinds such "extras" tactics.
