Soul Asylum - yeah great band...they still going? GDU was an OK CD with =
some great singles...however the album after that "let your dim light =
shine" is much better.

Initially the Oils were to headline on Saturday but I believe when the =
opportunity arose to play in California at another large festival they =
jumped at that chance and moved their appearance in Minneapolis to =
Friday which already had 2 main acts booked. The main act after the Oils =
was Soul Asylum, a Minneapolis act that got VERY popular in the states =
with their CD Grave Dancers Union. I can think of about 5 highly =
charting singles of theirs. They have an avid following in the twin =
cities area to this day although they are nearly forgotten everwhere =
else. They drew more people than the Oils did although the place was =
swarming for the Oils as well.

The Oils weren't the main act ? Who was then ?

Who ever it was, they would certainly have had a difficult time =
playing *after* the Oils i'm sure !!

Ok, so the Minneapolis gig seemed to be really good exposure for =
the Oils in the twin cities. There had to be close to 10,000 people =
there to see the band on Friday. I got there very late and didn't get =
that great of a spot. I attended the show with an old college roommate =
of mine and fellow Powderworker Adam. The OILS got started about 10min =
late and they did trim a couple songs from the setlist (Real Thing and =
Hercules) and they didn't get to do any encore due to the time alotted =
for the main act.

The setlist they DID play looks like this....
      Bullroarer
      Sunshine
      Weapon
      Trug
      Lucky
      --acoustic---
      Luritja
      Short Mem
      Neverland
      BSM
      ---electric---
      Golden
      Redneck
      King
      RRRed
      Only the Strong
      Dead Heart
      Beds
      Dreamworld

was a solid set about 80 minutes. The Oils actually went to the =
merchandise booth after they came off stage and signed autographs for =
quite a while. Liquid8 seemed to have a good outting! Saw Trina there =
and got some wicked old photos autographed by the guys, it was funny to =
see the looks on there faces giving them a huge photo to sign of Pete =
with hair and Martin with a VERY full beard!!! Jim also had a full beard =
back then. And the original bassist was in the pic as well.=20

Keep rockin, when I find my setlist from the Madison show I will =
post that one as well, just getting stuff put away here from my Oils =
vacation since I took my whole family to Minneapolis for the weekend.

Plenty happy with the 11 Capricornia shows I got to see on this =
whole string of tours for the new album!
