Hi All,

This post appeared today on the Oils Face Book Page.

The political and social sentiment towards Aboriginal people in Australia in the mid-late 80s was set against the backdrop of a growing land rights movement, a strengthening mining industry and the so called Celebration of a Nation as the decade drew to a close.

And then there was a band of 5 middle class white guys from Sydney, who created one of the most profound albums of the decade; inspired by the outback and telling the story of a time, a place, and a people.

Former federal minister and Midnight Oil front man Peter Garrett joined Marnie Round to reflect on the inspiration behind Diesel And Dust, the friendship and influence of Warumpi Band, the famous Sydney Olympic ‘Sorry Suits’, and why it’s worrying that an album made 30 years ago is still socially and politically pertinent today.

Produced by Marnie Round.
