The alternative theories as far as I remember are:
1. It’s a type of longboard for surfing, named for the spoon shape of the nose
2. It’s a reference to heroin use rather than literally going surfing

Awesome some new cool shirts! Wish I could get to the exhibition but thanks to all the people who shared and reported.
I will definitely go for the Surfing With A Spoon design. But after all these years, I still don't know exactly what the song title refers to! I should have asked Rob when I had a chance ;-)
