Nope - if PG ever was a contender for leader amongst the ALP elected members or wider membership (which I don't think he ever really was any way) he sure ain't now and I can't imagine he ever will be.

The point of Cassidy's article was that the public perception amongst progressive voters/young voters of KRudd and his govt has gone through the floor, at least in part because of the insulation scheme.

Whether this is factually correct or not, it's the perception that counts, and on that, the govt have done a godawful job of managing perceptions (so much for being masters of spin) The mining tax is the latest issue which they f8888d up on - not the policy, but in making the case for it and staring down the miners/Coalition.

Personally I prefer Tanner over Gillard, but KRudd will be leading them to the next election - it's all gonna be pretty entertaining, though not necessarily in a good way.

Dear Powdies

Ah, memories ...

Speaking of memories, does anyone remember that episode of the TV show 'Yes Minister', called 'Party Games'? The unexpected resignation of the (British) PM prompted a race for the succession, and as Party Chairman, Jim Hacker emerged as the 'compromise candidate', jumped up from the pack, took the mark, and came back to earth as PM?

Nah. NO WAY. Julia Gillard is next in line. It couldn't happen, not after the insulation row. Could it?
